Chair: New Testament Studies

Prof. Dr. Thomas Söding was born in 1956. He studied Catholic Theology, German Studies and History at the University of Münster. In 1985 he earned a doctoral degree in Catholic Theology (“Glaube bei Markus”), in 1991 he habilitated in New Testament Studies (“Das Liebesgebot bei Paulus”). From 1993 until 2008 he worked as Professor for Biblical Theology at the University of Wuppertal. Since 2008 he has been professor for New Testament Studies at the University of Bochum.
He is a member of the Academy of Science in North Rhine-Westphalia. Prof. Söding is consultor of the Ponticifal Council for Promoting the New Evangelization. From 2004 until 2014 he was a member of the Commissio Theologica Internationalis; at the World Synods of bishops in 2005, 2008 and 2012 he served as theological expert.
