Prof. Dr. Louis Cloete Jonker, distinguished professor of Hebrew Bible and Old Testament at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, was awarded the prestigious Georg Forster Research Award in 2023. Within the framework of the research award, he will be able to spend several months of research at the Ruhr-University Bochum from 2024–2026 to conduct a project on the literary history of the late Persian and early Hellenistic periods with his host Prof. Dr. Christian Frevel.

As part of Prof. Dr Esias Meyer's (University of Pretoria) DAAD guest stay at the Chair of Old Testament Studies, a full-day workshop on the relationship between the books of Leviticus and Numbers was held on Saturday, 17 December 2022. The presentations by Julia Glanz (University of St Andrews/RUB), Meike Röhrig (HU Berlin), Esias Meyer (University of Pretoria), Christophe Nihan (WWU Münster), Reinhard Achenbach (WWU Münster) and Christian Frevel (RUB), among others, addressed similarities and differences in the terminology, rituals and conceptions of the two books and discussed proposals for new diachronic development models with the participants and other guests.
