Im aktuellen Heft des Journal of Religious History hat Daniel Pfitzer eine ausführliche Rezension zu Florian Bocks Werk Pastorale Strategien zwischen Konfessionalisierung und Aufklärung. Katholische Predigten und ihre implizite Hörer-/Leserschaft (circa 1670 bis 1800) veröffentlicht. Die Studie, die sich mit katholischen Predigten und deren Wirkung auf die Hörer- und Leserschaft im frühneuzeitlichen Europa beschäftigt, wird darin als maßgeblicher Beitrag zur Erforschung frühneuzeitlicher Homiletik gewürdigt: 

"Future research on early modern homiletics will have to take Florian Bock’s convincing and groundbreaking study into account as a reference work in this regard — and benefit from it to a considerable extent! Above all, follow-up studies for other Catholic regions of the Holy Roman Empire and beyond in early modern Europe as a whole, as well as a broader comparative study of Protestant sermon texts, are now possible thanks to Bock’s study as a background foil.
The impressive depth of focus with simultaneous methodological stringency and connection to a clearly recognisable and recurring underlying thesis are just as impressive as the author’s broad knowledge of the diverse main and sub-aspects of the study.
Overall, the reviewer has little reason for criticism — which is a rare enough occurrence. Bock has provided an excellent study that is fully convincing both methodologically and epistemologically. Finally, it is also written in a lucid style that guarantees a smooth read."
